Due to overwhelming demand from Nitro RS4 racers, HPI Racing announced early in 1998 that HPI would make available a "Racer" version of the popular Nitro RS4, designed for serious competition. As you can see from the above photo, the Nitro RS4 Racer comes with a few option parts standard, some of them never before available! This kit is faster, stronger and more efficient and was designed from its inception to do one thing: Win Races.

The Nitro RS4 Racer has proven to be a very popular kit with racers at all levels, and was chosen as the RC World magazine 1998 Touring Car New Model of the Year in their GP (Gas Powered) competition! We are very honored to announce this award here, and are pleased to let our loyal fans know about this prestigious award!

The Racer starts with a thicker and stronger 2.5mm aluminum chassis to provide a solid and stable racing platform. Then, we countersunk the chassis (which allows the car to be lowered right down to the racing surface) and anodized it bright purple.

Next, we took our list of "most-requested" items and applied them to the Racer. We added a full set of ball bearings, hard anodized Super Shocks with Teflon pistons, silicone shock oil, stiff springs, universal dogbones, adjustable turnbuckles, a more durable fiber brake disc, a set of "Super" compound tires and a 15 tooth clutchbell. Good stuff!

The Racer comes with no engine or body so you can include your own high performance .12 racing engine and the body that best suits your racetrack. Add your own tuned pipe and you will terrorize the competition. Get a Nitro RS4 Racer kit...and get ready to win!


Thicker and stronger 2.5mm aluminum chassis that is anodized bright purple and countersunk. This new chassis will resist twisting and bending better than the stock chassis, and acts as a heatsink for the engine.

Front and rear wide universal dogbones. Better power transfer and efficiency are the benefits of using the universal dogbones. They are wide (200mm) so that maximum width is maintained for control and cornering.

The triple belt drive is the most efficient way to get power to the front and rear differentials. There is no wasted power in this drive train!

A full set of ball bearings make the drivetrain super efficient. Our high-quality ball bearings fully outfit the car, from wheels to gear shafts to diffs, for smooth running.

Fiber brake disk for immense stopping power with little wear or fade. This new material resists melting and oil spatters much better than the original brake disc, and will last much longer too!

Hard anodized Super Shocks with Teflon pistons. Aluminum shock bodies and caps with polished shock shafts make the suspension action extremely smooth and consistent.

A full set of adjustable Turnbuckles make the Nitro RS4 Racer easy to adjust. Easy to identify marks on the turnbuckles make tuning your car very simple.

15 tooth clutchbell for a higher top speed over the normal 13 tooth clutchbell.

Super Compound Super Radials and Super Star wheels. A softer compound than our M-Compound Super Radials, these tires will perform better on the widest variety of surfaces.

Because the kit comes with no body or engine, the Nitro RS4 Racer will cost about the same as the regular Nitro RS4. Racers can choose the best combination of engine and body for their track and driving style. Engine mounting hardware and a tuned can-type muffler are included, so all you have to provide is your high-performance engine (HPI, O.S., Dynamite etc.) and your choice of body. By eliminating the engine and body (parts that get replaced quickly by racers anyway), we were able to provide nitro racers with the most popular option parts as standard equipment!

Included but not shown in the pictures are: engine mounts and screws, tuned can-type muffler, clutch and flywheel, 15 tooth clutchbell and body posts. The picture above shows the Nitro RS4 Racer with a Nitro Star .15 engine, tuned pipe and header. These parts are not included with the kit and must be purchased separately if you wish to use them on this kit.

Required to make the Nitro RS4 Racer ready for running: 2-channel radio with two servos, battery pack and receiver, AA batteries for receiver battery pack and radio, 20% Blue Thunder fuel, fuel bulb, body (see HPI's selection of excellent bodies), Lexan paint for the body, .12 engine (check out HPI's assortment of engines). Engines of .12 size from HPI, O.S.,  Dynamite and Thunder Tiger will fit the Nitro RS4 Racer. The only engines of .15 size that that will fit are the engines that use .12 size cases (such as the engines from HPI and the new O.S. 15CV engine).
