1/10 scale scale gaspowered on-road racing is one of the fastest growing classes in gaspowered rc car-racing. The Impact-2 racing car was introduced in the market in june 1995 as the successor of the Impact-1. From the 1/10 scale racers we understood that they wanted a car with more adjusting possibilities, to set up their car better for each specific circuit / track. On the other hand the Impact-2 should be a very nicely designed, lightweight and strong car. This is the R&D challenge Michael Salven started at in September 1994.

MICHAEL CONCEPT
The Impact-2 is the first Serpent car completely proto-typed by Michael Salven. Michael was already closely involved with the development of the EXCEL MK1 1/8 scale racing car, but the Impact-2 is his first “baby”. Racing and developing the EXCEL MK1 and MK2 produced an enormous amount of knowledge on chassis-technology like roll-centers, geometry, weight distribution etc. All this information has been carefully stored in databases to use for future projects, like the Impact-2. Computer equipment with 3D design is now a standard tool to develop the chassis, even before actual proto-typing starts.

CHASSIS-PLATE
4mm CNC machined T6 aluminium chassisplate; lightweight, durable, counter-sunck holes, center-points to use on tweak-boards, chamfered edges (Click the picture for a larger one)

RADIOPLATE
CNC machined T6 aluminium; lightweight, purple anodized, easy radio installation and fueltank mounting (carbon plate is an option). The kit includes easy mounting and easy adjustable linkages for brake, throttle and steering. Also a high quality servo-saver is included).

FUEL-TANK
75ccm fueltank quick-fill type with sintered bronze filter, rubber buffer mounting to radioplate.

FRONT SUSPENSION
Independent double wishbone suspension with nicely designed, thin but very strong suspension arms. Spring-steel precision machined pivotball type linkages (with unique Serpent ball-cup system) , steeringblocks enable easy camber changes. Strong spring steel 2mm pivotpins. Easy caster-setting with caster-spacer sets. New geometry offers very progressive steering with special steeringblocks angle.

REAR SUSPENSION
Independent double wishbone suspension with nicely designed, thin but very strong suspension arms, designed to take even the toughest racing action. Spring-steel precision machined 8.5mm pivotball type linkages (with unique Serpent ball-cup system) enables easy and quick camber and toe-in changes. Lower suspension has double pivotball linkage to uprights increasing strength and stiffness. Strong spring steel 2mm pivotpins. Quick-change rear wheel system. Spring steel axles ballraced in durable uprights.

SHOCK ABSORBERS
The shockabsorbers are the famous adjustable units from Serpent. Providing the right amount of dampening for all circuits around the world. The shocks are specially designed and provide the best characteristics with Serpent silicon oil.

ANTI ROLL-BARS
2.5mm front Anti-roll bar with ball-cup system and easy centering device 3mm rear anti-roll bar linked to the lower rear wishbones.

TRANSMISSION 2WD
Clutch: Centax clutch (special Serpent designed centrifugal / axial clutch)
gearbox: 2-speed gearbox with 43/47 ration. precision CNC machined 2-speed bell, high quality ball-bearings and special spring steel layshaft with integrated cam, quick-change system on the ratio’s and complete 2-speed unit
differential: fully adjustable ball-differential with 46T pulley, very durable 6mm Kevlar timingbelt
driveshafts: high tensile steel mm rear driveshafts with hardended pins
